Untreated pine suitable for interior use. According to SABS regulations, structural pine must be treated - Tanalith / CCA (green) or TBTO (clear)
Hardwoods do not need to be treated

Main species of pine grown in the cape are Radiata (rough bark, dark green needles), Pineaster (rough bark, thick course grey green needles) and Ellioti (smooth bark)
Many species of meranti trees, hence the different colours and density
Grown in FSC plantations
From natural forests that are carefully managed
We buy only from SALMA Mills
We buy from large Malaysian saw mills
We buy only kiln dried pine
We buy all 25mm and thicker kiln dried meranti
Delivered about 50m3 at a time by road
Comes in 15m3 parcels on big ships that only carry meranti.
Truck loads; relatively short lead times from order
+ - 6 ships arrive in SA per year. we order minimum 3 months in advance
Measured in mm and Metres Bought in inches and feet - we must convert to mm and metres
Graded according to SABS grades or our visual requirements Graded in Malaysia according to Malaysian Grading Rules (MGR). South Africa buys standard and better grade
Interesting fact - blue timber is inferior to normal timber only in appearance
Interesting fact - The marks on the ends of the timber are used to identify parcels on the ships. Some hardwoods are in fact ‘soft’ like balsa wood
